Puma Golf Marketing Team Wins Big with Rickie Fowler Sponsorship

Going into the final round of the PGA Memorial Golf Tournament this weekend, a 21 year old golfer by the name of Rickie Fowler (official site) leads by 3 strokes and has a shot at winning his first PGA tournament. He is sponsored by Puma Golf Apparel @PumaGolf and the marketing folks at Puma Golf hit the nail on the head when they decided to sponsor him.

Rickie Fowler represents a new generation of young golfers and their golf clothing is edgy and brightly coloured, but not offensive. Think of Payne Stewart type fashion from the early 90's and fast forward the style to 2010 with an aggressive twist and you have the Puma Golf style worn by Rickie Fowler. Even if he does not win the Memorial this weekend, he has had enough TV time and exposure, and has become an icon representing the fresh new batch of young PGA golfers. Puma managed to capitalize on this perfectly, and watch their brand to the forefront of golf fashion soar in the coming years. Already, it is difficult to find some of the Puma Golf gear that Rickie Fowler has been wearing this weekend.

For example, I would love buy a few of the hats that he has been wearing recently, and in particular the Puma monoline hat in black (or any other colour than the pink).

I found a few of the 'Puma Golf Fitted Monoline Caps' at the website TrendyGolf.com but they have since sold out. Please leave me a comment if you find one!

I am heading to Tyler and Daniela’s… Daniela and Tyler's destination wedding on Saturday at the Mauna Lani Rockslide Estate on the Big Island of Hawaii and I am the best man.

We are staying for 10 days at Rockslide which is located on the Mauna Lani Resort Golf Course which I plan to golf a couple of times.

The new restaurant at Gleneagles Golf Course in West Vancouver opens May 1st

Yesterday I played golf at Gleneagles in West Van and saw this sign announcing that their restaurant is having their grand opening May 1st and then is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner the next day. I am very excited for this as the previous restaurant closed about 5 years ago and the new clubhouse and pro shop are finally open and the new coffee shop is also opening soon (at the end of March according to this poster).

Golf at Gleneagles is only $22 for nine holes which is easily the best deal in Vancouver and the good people at the City of West Vancouver have put a great deal of effort (and $$) to make improvements to the course recently. They have also added on online booking system that makes it easy to reserve tee times.

I think that I will be making 2 reservations for my next trip out there, one at 10am and another at 1:15pm. That will allow for a quick snack before 9 holes, then lunch (and a beer) and another 9 holes before heading home and all for about $65 which is a great deal. I am not sure what kind of fare the new restaurant will offer but I imagine that it will be burgers and pub food for lunch with steaks and salads for dinner.

The official press release reads: "The Clubhouse facility features a magnificent banquet ball (also known as The Great Hall) to host weddings, parties, and special events. The banquet hall services will be available for the community to book at competitive rates. The focus of food services will be on reasonably priced, quality, fresh, local food and produce. The Operator’s commitment to the environment will be evident in the local menu selections, business practices and décor which complements the architectural heritage of the facility."

The North Shore News identified the Operator as Bernd Rohde who owns the Lynn Valley location of the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company in North Vancouver Mr. Rohde is new to Vancouver and hopefully he can bring some new life and freshness to my favourite golf course.

Good job Gleneagles, we'll be seeing more of each other soon.
